Kerala Police Academy (KEPA) and CUSAT signed a memorandum of understanding in the fields of studies, research and training. This is done to expand the support given by Kerala Police to the Cyber Intelligence Research Laboratory of CUSAT in criminal investigation and training. The relevance of cyber intelligence is indispensable in an age where there is rapid advancement in technology and rise in crime related to computers and other electronic gadgets. Cyber Intelligence is collecting information from cyberspace, its analysis and arriving at conclusions after a thorough evaluation. The main areas in this are cybersecurity, cyber forensics and cyber law. CUSAT’s cyber applications department had set up a cyber intelligence research laboratory to study this.
Kerala Police works with the realisation that the need of the hour in policing is widely based on technology. The tremendous changes incorporated by the Kerala Police has been appreciated worldwide. Kerala Police Academy in Thrissur is the centralized training centre for the police forces in Kerala. The Academy has state of the art study materials, training and research facilities and curriculum available.
By signing the agreement, KEPA and CUSAT plan to share know-how in the field of education, research outputs, service of experts to equip policing and training of the forces and also in the field of education and research.
The agreement was signed by Dr B. Sandhya IPS, Director, Kerala Police Academy & Additional Director General of Police, Kerala and Dr K. Ajitha, Registrar, CUSAT in the presence of Dr K. N. Madhusoodhanan, Vice-Chancellor, CUSAT and Shri. Anup Kuruvilla John IPS, Deputy Inspector General of Police. ADGP, as well as the Vice-Chancellor, opined that it would be a milestone in the journey of KEPA and CUSAT.
The function was attended by Mr P. P. Vinod Kumar, Director, IRAA; Dr. Jayesh K.Joseph, Criminologist, KEPA ; Dr. M.K. Sabu, HOD, Computer Application, and faculties of Computer Application like Dr. B. Kannan, Dr. A. Sreekumar, Dr. K. V. Pramod, Dr. M. Jathavedhan, Dr. M. V. Judi, S. Malathi, K. A. Radheedha Rahman, researchers like T. K. Vijith, B. Sukrith, A. Anoorin Salim and staff from CUSAT.
